Product Overview

The Highest Efficiency FBC Boiler Design in its Class

The ISOTEX Powertherm  Series Bi-Drum Steam Boiler is the flagship configuration of the DDB range — featuring two separate pressure vessels (an upper steam drum and a lower water drum) connected by a bank of generating tubes. This bi-drum architecture has been the backbone of industrial steam generation for over a century and remains the preferred choice for large-capacity, high-reliability applications where steam quality, pressure stability, and long operational life are paramount.

The Bi-Drum configuration is specifically engineered for the highest capacity requirements — up to 50,000 kg/hr — and for applications demanding reliable, continuous steam supply. The two-drum design provides a large water reserve that buffers against load fluctuations, ensuring consistent steam pressure and quality even when process demand varies significantly. This makes it the ideal choice for sugar mills, distilleries, paper plants, chemical complexes, and power co-generation facilities.

Built on proven technology with ERK Eckrohrkessel GmbH Germany knowhow, manufactured at ISOTEX’s 70,000+ sqm facilities at Ahmedabad and Dahej, and certified to IBR/ASME/CE/TUV standards — the Bi-Drum BI-DRUM boiler is supplied complete with all auxiliary systems as a single-source turnkey solution.

Fuel Options & Combustion Systems

The Powertherm DDB Series BI-DRUM boiler is a true multi-fuel system. The pneumatic underbed fuel feeding system ensures complete insensitivity to fuel quality and size — enabling reliable combustion across all the following fuel types:

Contact ISOTEX for a fuel suitability assessment for your specific fuel mix, calorific value, and ash content.

Coal &Petcoke Fuels
  • Imported Coal — premium bituminous coal; highest calorific value
  • Petcoke / Petroleum Coke — high sulphur, high CV; BI-DRUM + limestone injection controls SO₂
  • Lignite — lower CV coal; BI-DRUM combustion achieves complete burnout without slagging
  • Indian Coal — high-ash grades; underbed feeding manages high-ash without DE fluidisation
Agricultural & Biomass Fuels
  • Rice Husk — high silica agro-waste; BI-DRUM handles without grate choking
  • Wood Chips — plantation and forest wood; consistent calorific value
  • Sawdust / Saw Dust — fine biomass from timber and woodworking industries
  • Coffee Husk — agro-waste from coffee processing; low moisture; moderate calorific value
  • Groundnut Shells — locally available in Gujarat; high CV; low moisture; excellent BI-DRUM fuel
Multi-Fuel Co-Firing Capability
  • Blended coal firing — Indian + imported coal blends for cost optimisation
  • Biomass co-firing — partial agro-waste substitution in coal-fired operations
  • Fuel switching — transition between fuels without boiler shutdown
  • Variable quality acceptance — consistent performance despite CV variation in supply
Technology Advantages

Key Features & Engineering Advantages

The Ecobloc introduces patented inbed heat recovery technology and advanced FBC combustion engineering that surpasses every conventional alternative in efficiency, fuel flexibility, and long-term reliability.

Bi-Drum Design Advantages

The bi-drum configuration delivers specific engineering advantages that single-drum designs cannot match at large capacities:

  • Large water reserve — the volume of water held between both drums provides exceptional buffering against rapid load changes; steam pressure remains stable even during sudden demand spikes
  • Large steam disengagement surface — the upper drum’s large cross-sectional area allows effective steam/water separation; delivers consistently dry, high-quality steam
  • Redundant water supply path — if one section of the tube bank were to be isolated, the dual-drum design allows continued safe operation
  • Easier circulation — natural circulation is enhanced by the height difference between the two drums
  • Proven design at highest capacities — bi-drum configuration is the standard choice for 15–50 TPH industrial and power applications
  • Scalable tube bank — additional tube rows can be added to increase capacity or heat recovery within the same drum framework

Fluidized Bed Combustion Technology

  • Combustion temperature 750–900°C — eliminates thermal NOx formation; enables in-bed SO₂ capture with limestone
  • Complete combustion — uniform bed temperature ensures full burnout of all fuel particles
  • Fuel flexibility — multi-fuel: imported coal, petcoke, lignite, Indian coal, rice husk, wood chips, sawdust, coffee husk, groundnut shells
  • Compartmental bed design — provides highest turn-down ratio for wide load range operation
  • No choking, no cleaning — 365 days uninterrupted operation
